Getting to know somebody new can sometimes be difficult until you find some common ground.
DateClassic suggest all members should fill out a profile and upload pictures when they register. Why not ask someone about the interests they have specified in their profile?

Try to avoid sending short closed messages to people you'd like to talk to. Try opening with a statement and a question so that the other member will find it easier and more appealing to respond. Often members write to each other and simply say 'Hi'. This is fine, but you are unlikely to stand out if they have received more than one message. You could try 'Hi there, I like your profile. Would you like to chat?' or maybe 'Hello, I notice you are a football fan, who do you support? It doesn't have to be a long message, but you need to grab their attention!
